Ingredients:
12 to 16 ounces white bread, stale but not hard3/4 cup raisins4 large eggs3/4 cup sugar1 teaspoon vanilla1 teaspoon ground cinnamon1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg1/2 teaspoon salt3 cups whole milkWhipped cream
Directions - Bread Pudding Recipe:
Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
Trim
the crust from the bread, and cut into 1/2-inch cubes. You should end up
with 4 to 5 lightly packed cups of bread cubes. Spread the bread evenly
in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the raisins over the top.
In a
medium bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and
salt. Next, whisk in whole milk. Pour the egg-milk mixture over the
bread and let stand for 30 minutes. Periodically press down the bread to
help it absorb the liquid.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake the pudding in a water bath until
puffed and firm in the center, about 75 minutes. Serve warm with whipped
cream.
Recipe yields 6 - 8 servings.
