Cream Biscuit Recipe



These great cream biscuits have a wonderful hearty texture that is perfect for cold days and warming soups!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold butter
3/4 cup heavy cream
Melted butter 

Directions:

Position rack in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Set aside a large ungreased baking sheet.

In a large bowl whisk together flours, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until flour mixture resembles small peas.

Stir in cream until dry ingredients are just moistened. With lightly floured hands, gather biscuit dough into a ball. Gently knead in bowl, 5  to 10 times. Makes a soft dough.

Turn cream biscuit dough onto a lightly floured board. Roll out to 1/3" thickness. Cut dough with 2" cutter. Place about 1" apart on prepared baking sheet. Brush tops with melted butter. Bake in oven until golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes.
